HH Shree 1008 Swami Harihar ji Maharaj established the first Geeta Ashram on the banks of the holy Yamuna river at Mathura in 1949. Here, Gurudev delivered discourses on the Bhagavad Geeta on a regular basis and very soon it became a popular place for devotees to seek knowledge about this sacred scripture.
But his quest and desire to spread the message of the Geeta did not end here. Very soon, the foundation stone of the next Geeta Ashram was laid at Delhi Cantonment by the former President of India, Dr S.R. Radhakrishnan in 1960. This Ashram became the ‘Supreme Sacred Seat’ of His Holiness. From here, Gurudev monitored all activities of Geeta Ashrams worldwide.

The hallmark of the Ashram is the very large temple, which houses beautifully carved murtis of Radha Krishna, Ram Durbar, Shiv Parvati, Hanuman ji, Ganesh ji, Durga ji, besides our own Revered Gurudev. The temple has a hall with a seating capacity of about 1000 devotees. In the premises the Ashram runs a school, here children are imparted education under a curriculum that prepares them for acquiring a moral & ethical personality.

The Geeta Ashram at Delhi Cantt functions as the Central Headquarters for Geeta Dham and all the Geeta Ashrams in India and abroad. Besides administrative functions, the Ashram serves as a lighthouse for spiritual activities for the devotees.

Around the mid-sixties, Gurudev succeeded in establishing the first Geeta Ashram outside India, in Malaysia. This was followed by setting up of Ashrams in Penang, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. The seventies saw Ashrams set up in North & South America and even the African countries. Thus working relentlessly on his mission, Rev Gurudev carried the message of the Geeta to the four continents of the world. As Founder President of Geeta Ashrams all over the world, Gurudev had a VISION – of a Spiritual Lighthouse, which would serve as an international Centre of Research in various aspects of the Philosophy of the Geeta.
In 1993, 90 acres of land at Tinwari, Jodhpur were donated to His Holiness by two philanthropists from Jodhpur. On this land, Gurudev’s dream of GEETA DHAM was conceived, created and established.
